Valladolid sign Sastre and Rukavina

Real Valladolid have signed midfielder Lluis Sastre from Huesca and Serbian defender Antonio Rukavina from 1860 Munich.

According to the club’s official website, both players have penned three-year deals after arriving as free agents.

Rukavina, 28, who has represented Serbia 20 times and played in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, began his professional career with Bezanija in his native country before a move to Partizan Belgrade in 2007.

One year later Borussia Dortmund paid €2.5m for him but he was transferred to 1860 Munich in July 2009 in a straight swap for Sven Bender after an initial loan spell in the Bavarian capital.

In Sastre’s case, the 26-year-old emerged through Barcelona’s youth ranks but moved to Real Zaragoza in 2006, although he did not make a first-team start for Los Manos and joined Aragonese neighbours Huesca 12 months later, helping the club to promotion to La Segunda in his first season.

Despite his 110 League appearances Sastre scored just one goal at El Alcoraz, yet El Pucela boss Miroslav Djukic feels he is a player ´who could do very well for us and give us better circulation of the ball`.

Sastre himself was delighted to be given the chance to show his worth in La Primera for the first time.

“I have come to an historic club, for which I am very grateful, and I think I can adapt to the style of play that the Coach wants,” he said.

“On a personal level it is an important step and means I have accomplished a dream.

“I have a lot of confidence in myself and hope I can help the team.”
