Villas-Boas: Real need to offer €40m

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is adamant Luka Modric will not be sold unless Spurs receive a €40m offer.

The Croatian midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent weeks but Villas-Boas insists he will remain at White Hart Lane unless the club gets what it considers to be a realistic offer for the 26-year-old.

“Modric is still, to all intents and purposes, a Tottenham Hotspur player and unless we get a satisfactory offer he will not be moving from Spurs,” Villas-Boas told a Press conference after Spurs’ first pre-season friendly, a 2-0 victory at Stevenage.

“We understand that it is a very difficult situation as three clubs are interested in him, but it is important for Tottenham to assert our rights.

“Luka is intelligent and understands that the club has to defend its interests but what we have been offered so far does not reach the figure the chairman wants, so the situation remains the same as before.

“If that is met then there will not be a problem.”

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are believed to be the other clubs interested in the playmaker, who joined Tottenham from Dinamo Zagreb four years ago and is under contract until 2016.
