Granada have announced via the club’s official website that they have signed striker Darwin Machis from Udinese on a five-year deal.
The 19-year-old Venezuelan only joined the Italian side on July 6 from Mineros de Guayana in his native country, but has immediately linked up with the Andalusian outfit as they are owned by the same family as Udinese.
Granada and the Serie A outfit have an agreement that guarantees the exchange of players from one squad to another and Machis has arrived as a direct replacement for Odion Ighalo, who scored six goals in 30 appearances last term when he was on a season-long loan from Udinese.
The Nigerian, however, failed to agree a new contract at Los Carmenes over the summer and said this week that he was 'very sad not have come to an arrangement as I only wanted a little more money', and has returned to his parent club to sort out his future.
Machis, on the other hand, is delighted to have been given the opportunity to show his worth in La Liga.
“Today I have taken a big step both professionally and personally,” said Machis, who despite his tender years has already been capped twice by Venezuela.
“Now I can say I have realised one of my dreams. I am grateful to God, my family, Mineros and my representative.”
Meanwhile, the player’s agent Sebastian Cano said he was proud to have finally secured a contract for his client, particularly after the youngster impressed with 16 goals in 36 games for Mineros in the 2011-12 campaign.
“I personally believe that the decision to go to Granada was the correct one,” Cano explained.
“Nonetheless, Udinese treated us very professionally and I can say that we have a lot of talent at youth level in our country.”
