Higuain: I hope Modric arrives soon

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain says he hopes Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric arrives at the Santiago Bernabeu soon.

The Croatian is keen to move to the Spanish capital and Spurs have reluctantly conceded they will need to sell him, but the sticking point to any transfer is that Los Blancos do not want to pay the €45m demanded by the London club, while at the same time attempting to offer Turkish international Nuri Sahin as part of any agreement.

“I saw Modric in the European Championships and I’ve also watched him at Tottenham. He is someone the club as well as ourselves like very much.

“I hope they can close a deal as soon as possible if it is for the good of the team,” said Higuain, who was speaking at a Press conference after completing the second day of pre-season training at the club’s Valdebebas facility on Tuesday.

Higuain was also asked about rumours over the summer that he was set to leave the club, with Paris Saint-Germain believed to have made a bid for him and Chelsea and Juventus also monitoring his situation.

“I have had to live with these things from the first day I arrived here,” responded the 24-year-old.

“I know what kind of club I am at and what players there are here, but I am relaxed about it.”

In addition, Higuain revealed he had held a meeting with Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, although he did not want to reveal what was said, and also commented on Barcelona President Sandro Rosell’s recent remarks that ‘the last La Liga season had been a strange one’.

“It was strange in as much as we scored 121 goals and achieved 100 points, because we won at the Camp Nou and also did things that had never been done in any other League.”
