Parejo learns Valencia lesson

Valencia midfielder Dani Parejo says in an interview with Marca that he learned a valuable lesson at the Mestalla last season.

The former Real Madrid player, signed from Getafe for €6m before the start of the 2011-12 campaign, admits he found it difficult in his first year, appearing in just 16 La Liga games as he struggled to impress former boss Unai Emery, yet he believes it was a lesson well learned.

“Midfield is a very difficult position and there were a lot of players available, so I had to take advantage of my opportunities, but last year went badly. Even so, I learned a lot,” admitted the 23-year-old.

However, Parejo is how hoping a change of Coach, with Mauricio Pellegrino having taken the reins following Emery’s departure, will transform his fortunes.

“This is a new era and a new year, so there are new aims. Everybody starts from zero so I am hoping it’s going to be a good season with Valencia.”

“The first year was difficult because everything was new and that affects you. I now know the club, the city and the people and how it all works, so now is the time to take a step forward.”
