Real Mallorca unveil Mexican sponsor

The Mexican tourism district of Riviera Maya will sponsor Real Mallorca during the 2012-13 season, according to Ultima Hora.

The Balearic club have revealed that the brand will replace betting firm Bet At Home on the club’s shirts, with Mallorca believed to be in line to receive around €1m for the deal, although neither party has disclosed any financial details.

A ceremony at the Iberostar Stadium on Monday was attended by Roberto Borges, governor of Quintana Roo state where Riviera Maya is situated, and Mallorca President Jaume Cladera along with the club’s director of football and maximum shareholder Lorenzo Serra Ferrer.

There was also confirmation that Los Bermellones have agreed to participate in a friendly tournament involving Espanyol – sponsored by the Mexican resort of Cancun – and Atlante from Mexico’s First Division, at a date yet to be arranged.

Rivera Maya, also known as the Mayan Riviera, was rebranded in 1999 after previously being called the Cancun-Tulum corridor, with 80 per cent of its hotels owned by Mallorcan companies such as RIU, Barcelo, Iberostar and Sol Melia.
