Mourinho hands Jesus first-team role

Jose Mourinho has told Real Madrid B goalkeeper Jesus he will be handed a first-team squad number for next season.

The Portuguese ran the rule over the 24-year-old in training last term but what particularly impressed him was the way in which Jesus performed in the two games against Cadiz in the play-offs for promotion to La Segunda.

Madrid-born Jesus was also in impressive form throughout the regular season, playing 1,807 minutes during which he conceded just 18 goals – one every 100 minutes and less than a goal per game.

These are statistics that have convinced Mourinho now is the time to reward him for his work, although he has already been given a taste of La Liga action when he replaced Jerzy Dudek for the final 13 minutes of the last game of the 2010-11 season, an 8-1 home victory over Almeria.

Jesus began his professional career in the youth ranks of both Villarreal and Getafe and joined Numancia in 2007, making five Segunda appearances for the Soria club before being snapped up by Real three years later.
