Celta Vigo land Levante defender

According to Sport, Gustavo Cabral is set to undergo a medical on Friday before putting pen to paper with newly-promoted Celta Vigo.

The Levante central defender will become boss Paco Herrera’s third close-season signing following the arrivals of goalkeeper Javi Varas and defender Samuel Llorca, and has agreed a two-year deal at Balaidos.

Boss Herrera had informed Celta director of football Miguel Torrecilla that an experienced centre-back was a priority before the start of the 2012-13 campaign and Cabral fits the bill, having played for Racing, River Plate and Arsenal Sarandi in Argentina and Mexican outfit Estudiantes Tecos.

However, the 26-year-old struggled to hold down a regular starting place in Juan Ignacio Martinez’s line-up at the Ciutat de Valencia last term and has been allowed to leave to leave for a fee of around €500,000, which Los Celestes will pay investment fund MP Sport, the company that owns the footballer’s rights.
