Benfica game an honour says Butragueno

Emilio Butragueno says it will be an honour for Real Madrid to take part in the fifth edition of the Eusebio Cup.

Real Madrid’s director of institutional relations was speaking to the club’s official website about the friendly match between Real and Benfica on July 27 at the Estadio Da Luz, which will be played in tribute to Portuguese legend Eusebio who has been suffering health problems over the past few months.

“We hope the match will have a party atmosphere to pay tribute to one of the best players in football history,” said Butragueno.

“It is an honour for Real Madrid to participate as we have an excellent relationship with Benfica, who are an historic side, and this will only strengthen it even more.”

“We are deeply sorry about Eusebio's illness and hope he recovers as quickly as possible. I think he represents for Benfica what Alfredo di Stefano represents for us.

“He played at a glorious time during the 1960’s and was the leader of a wonderful team. He has many values and a spirit of self-improvement that he has instilled in future generations.
“ I hope Real Madrid and Benfica come face-to-face in a final in the near future, just like we did in 1962, but I just hope the score is different this time!

“We are very grateful to Benfica for their hospitality and they are excellent hosts,” he added.
