Xabi Alonso: Champions League the aim

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has put the Champions League at the top of his wish list for next season.

The former Real Sociedad and Liverpool man helped Los Blancos to the La Liga title last term and was a key member of Spain’s victorious Euro 2012 team, yet he is now eyeing a 10th European Cup success for Madrid.

“I enjoyed winning La Liga with 100 points, as well as beating Barcelona, and it was the same feeling when we won Euro 2012,” he said in Indonesia, where he is promoting a snack company that sponsors the Spanish national team.

“However, next year the aim is to win the Champions League with Real Madrid.”

Alonso, who already has a Champions League winners medal after helping Liverpool beat Milan in 2005, was attending a youth soccer tournament in Jakarta in which thousands of Indonesians participated.

“I am very grateful for the warm welcome I have received. It is my first visit to Indonesia and I am really enjoying it because I came here to promote football,” said Alonso.

The Basque-born player is the second member of Vicente Del Bosque’s Spain team to land in the country this week following Cesc Fabregas’ visit last Wednesday and Thursday.HowHHHhh
