Reports in Sweden suggest newly-promoted Celta Vigo are interested in signing Olympiakos defender Olof Mellberg.
The veteran Swedish international is a free agent after completing his contract with the Greeks and may look favourably on a return to La Liga having spent three years with Racing Santander between 1998 and 2001.
However, Los Celestes could face stiff competition from Everton for the 34-year-old centre-back, who scored twice against England during Sweden’s 3-2 Euro 2012 defeat in Kiev, with boss David Moyes poised to swoop with a lucrative financial offer.
Nonetheless, Celta believe they will be able to guarantee Mellberg more playing time as he winds down his career and boss Paco Herrera sees him as the ideal figure to lead his side’s return to the top flight after a five-year absence.
