Real Madrid call off Morocco friendly

Real Madrid’s first match of the pre-season has been postponed due to what AS describes as logistical problems.

The fixture was due to take place against reigning Moroccan champions Moghreb Atletico Tetuan in Tangier on July 24, but Los Blancos will now begin preparations for the defence of their La Liga title with a game against Benfica in Lisbon’s Estadio da Luz three days later.

Madrid then travel to the United States for the World Football Challenge where they will play games against Los Angeles Galaxy, Santos Laguna de Mexico, Milan and Glasgow Celtic before returning to Spain.

The Spanish League begins on the weekend of August 18-19, after which Jose Mourinho’s men will face Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana on August 22 at Camp Nou, with the return in the Santiago Bernabeu one week later.

There is also a game against Millonarios de Bogota for the Trofeo Bernabeu to be pencilled in on a date yet to be arranged.
