Luis Garcia heads to Mexico

Real Zaragoza winger Luis Garcia Fernandez is heading to Mexico where he is expected to sign for Club Tigres de la UANL.

“Spanish player Luis Garcia Fernandez will arrive on Thursday morning in Monterrey to continue negotiations with Club Tigres,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

Garcia is a product of the Real Madrid youth system and played for the club’s C and B teams before being released and joining Real Murcia in summer 2003.

After signing for Real Mallorca the following year he was sold 12 months later to Espanyol for Є3m and picked up a Copa del Rey winners medal in his first season, scoring twice in a 4-1 final victory over Real Zaragoza.

In August 2011 Garcia signed a three-year contract with Zaragoza and three weeks later netted a brace against his former club and also missed a penalty in a 2-1 home success.

The 31-year-old has represented Spain seven times, making his debut in a Euro 2008 qualifier against Latvia in June 2007.
