Sevilla fixed on Piris

Sevilla’s search for players to make up a new look defence has now taken in Sao Paulo right-back Ivan Piris.

According to Sport, talks have been ongoing for several weeks and the 23-year-old Paraguay international is understood to look favourably upon a move to the Sanchez Pizjuan.

The Andalusians are believed to have been monitoring Piris for the last two years but one obstacle to any deal appears to be that the player is owned by an investment company and Sevilla would prefer to have outright ownership if they were to bring him to Europe.

However, director of football Monchi is keen to tie up an agreement as soon as possible with pre-season training commencing on Thursday, although he could face stiff competition from Roma who are prepared to offer more money than the Spaniards.

Piris joined Sao Paulo from Cerro Porteno last year for €2m and was part of the Paraguay side that finished runners-up in the 2011 Copa America.
