La Liga games set for 11pm kick-off

Mundo Deportivo reports that a game from each of the opening two weeks of the 2012-13 La Liga season will kick off at 11pm, Spanish time.

The early opening to the League programme means that matches will be played in searing heat of August and the Spanish League (LFP), along with television broadcasters Mediapro, have agreed to the late start times to combat the high temperatures at that time of year, with the rest of the games scheduled to kick off at 7pm and 9pm, Spanish time.

La Liga is due to begin on the weekend of August 18-19 provided a meeting of the Spanish Football Assembly ratifies the fixture list, which has been agreed by the LFP, the Spanish Football Federation and the Spanish Professional Footballers’ Association.

It is not the first time that a match has been played at such a late hour, with Real Madrid and Barcelona having faced each other in the Supercopa de Espana at that time last August.
