Agents: Barca’s Alba now worth double

According to various FIFA agents consulted by Marca, Barcelona new boy Jordi Alba is worth double the €14m the Catalans paid for him.

The former Valencia left-back, 23, was one of the revelations of Spain’s Euro 2012-winning team and several agents consider that if Barca wanted to sell him right now then they would be asking around the €30m mark.

Ramon Paris, who represented the late Miki Roque, made it clear that La Blaugrana pulled off a shrewd piece of business by recruiting Alba before the end of the tournament.

“Barca chose the right moment to buy him because now this guy is worth double. Valencia should have waited until the competition was over,” declared Paris.

Rafa Anguita, who acts for Celta Vigo’s Enrique de Lucas and Osasuna’s Marc Bertran, felt the same way.

“Just by coming to Barcelona a player is revalued and if on top of that he is a European Championship winner then you can double it.

“Barca have done great business, similar to what Real Madrid did when they signed Sergio Ramos.”

Javier Magico Diaz, the agent for Oriol Romeu, Marc Bartra and Sergio Garcia among others, explained that “although paying €14m for a player who only had one year left on his contract is a lot, Barcelona could now get €28m for him.”

Finally, Eduardo Ipiens, who looks after both Fernando Amorebieta and Joaquin Caparros’ interests, believes that Alba’s worth did not shoot up significantly following his performance in the final against Italy, although he did admit that “maybe he would now cost around €4m more, yet it is a very profitable purchase and in five years time he could be sold for a lot more money.”
