Borja Valero to stay at Villarreal

Midfielder Borja Valero has announced he is to remain with recently-relegated Villarreal next season.

“I am staying with the Yellow Submarine, where I am very happy,” the 27-year-old told Marca.

“Right now all I am thinking of is Villarreal and want to help them to return to where they deserve to be – among the elite of Spanish football.”

The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move away from El Madrigal since the club’s demotion, with Malaga showing particular interest and the player believed to have spoken to former director of football Fernando Hierro

However, Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini is understood to have cooled on the idea and Valero himself admits there has been no concrete offer.

“So far I have not been seduced by the petrodollars. They are like €500 notes: everybody knows they exist but you never see them,” he commented.
