Espanyol return a ‘dream’ for Tejera

Midfielder Sergio Tejera says it is a 'dream' to return to Espanyol, the club where he started his career as a 10-year-old in 2000.

“To return here as a first team player is a dream I have had since I left,” admitted Tejera, who has signed a four-year contract at the Cornella El-Prat after leaving Real Mallorca.

The Barcelona-born player joined Chelsea in 2006, having signed for the Premier League outfit after being spotted by scout Frank Arnesen in a match with the Spanish Under-15 side.

However, he failed to make a first-team appearance at Stamford Bridge and was subsequently loaned to Mallorca in 2009 before the Islanders exercised their right to buy in the summer of that year.

After spending much of his first two seasons with Mallorca’s reserve side, Tejera made his debut in a 3-2 loss at Real Zaragoza in November, 2010 but started just seven times last term.

“Nobody likes to see so many games from the bench and last year was not a very good one for me,” he confessed.

“I hope I never have to go through it again.”

Although he was a youngster in his previous spell at Espanyol, Tejera added that he still has some fond memories and will never forget the time when he was a ball boy at the club’s old Montjuic ground when Raul Tamudo was playing.
