Barca to play Supercopa de Catalunya

Barcelona have announced they have accepted a new proposal to play the Supercopa de Catalunya on September 26.

The match against Espanyol was provisionally suspended last week after La Blaugrana made it known they planned to field a team of reserve players to prevent injury to first-team squad members before the start of the new season.

In an official communication via their website, Barca reiterated its support for Catalan football and the Catalan Federation, whilst at the same time reaffirming its commitment to the Barcelona Marathon in aid of the poor and those affected by the recent fires in the Alt Emporda region.

However, the club lamented the fact that organisations from outside Barcelona have wanted to interfere in decisions that were strictly football-based.

It asked that there be greater understanding of the way in which Barca play a number of official matches for good causes and said it would be impossible for the players to undertake any more commitments.
