Milla plans La Rojita changes

Spain Olympic team boss Luis Milla is planning to overhaul his side after the shock 1-0 opening Group D game defeat to Japan.

Despite having Inigo Martinez sent off in the first half, La Rojita looked considerably under par and lacked any rhythm against opponents who could have won by an even greater margin.

As a result, reports in Spain claim Milla will make at least three changes for Sunday’s clash with Honduras at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park, with Isco, Rodrigo and the suspended Martinez all expected to be relegated to the bench.

In will come Iker Muniain and Alberto Botia, with Milla deciding on the other replacement closer to kick-off, although everything points to Chelsea’s Oriol Romeu being included from the start after making a good impression when he came on at Hampden Park.

The Spanish Coach, however, believes his men have what it takes to overcome Honduras despite being aware defeat would see them knocked out of the competition at the first hurdle.

“These players have given us a lot of joy and know how to handle these type of situations,” Milla told a Press conference.

“Even so, we will need to be at our best to impose ourselves on a Honduran team that do things very well.

“We must start strongly, make things uncomfortable for them and play the game on our terms.

“They are very technical in midfield and like to keep the ball, so we have to use our strength and pace,” he added.
