David Lopez in Depor talks

Athletic Bilbao midfielder David Lopez is having talks with Deportivo de La Coruna over a possible move to Riazor, claims AS.

Lopez has been with the Basques for five years since his €5.8m signing from Osasuna in July 2007, yet made just four starts under Marcelo Bielsa last term and feels he needs to kick-start his career at the age of 29.

There has also been interest shown from Celta Vigo and Real Zaragoza, while he recently rejected a good financial offer from Lokomotiv Moscow as he does not fancy a move to Russia at this stage of his career.

However, the problem for Depor is that Lopez commands a salary of around €800,000 per season, which would need to be significantly lowered before the Galician club’s President Augusto Cesar Lendoiro, who has a reputation as an tough negotiator, would be willing to do business.

The player, meanwhile, is understood to be deeply disappointed that Bielsa has not given any explanation why he is not in his future plans and, after being made aware he would not figure in any pre-season friendlies, is now desperate for an exit route out of San Mames.
