Maradona: Spain are beatable

Diego Maradona feels Italy can beat Spain in Sunday’s Euro 2012 final in Kiev and predicts a tough game for the Spanish.

“For once Spain look beatable while the Italians appear secure and inspired,” wrote Maradona in his column in the Times of India.

“This was not the final people expected, apart from 60 million Italians, as it was supposed to be Spain vs. Germany, but the semi-final was like a speeding Ferrari against a Mercedes Diesel.

“However, you cannot rule out the Spanish as in players such as Andres Iniesta, Iker Casillas, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos they have men with pride who have the desire to win this tournament, which would be an unprecedented feat.”

The Argentine also had words of praise for the Italians and in particular Coach Cesare Prandelli, who he believes has done a magnificent reconstruction job after the first-round exit in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“Prandelli has based his team on three players in Andrea Pirlo, Gianluigi Buffon and Daniele De Rossi while Mario Balotelli showed against Germany that he has reached maturity in this tournament.

“As usual the two best teams have reached the final but whoever gains control of the midfield will win the game,” he added.
