Espanyol confirm Uche transfer

Espanyol have confirmed the transfer of striker Kalu Uche to Kasimpasa SK of Istanbul.

The Turkish outfit have agreed to pay the €1.5m buy-out clause in the 29-year-old’s contract and he is expected to pen a three-year deal with Kasimpasa, who were promoted back to the Super Lig via the play-offs at the end of last season after a one-year absence.

Uche has had an impressive few months at Cornella El-Prat after arriving on a free transfer in January this year following an ill-fated five months with Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax. He made 17 La Liga appearances and scoring six goals for Los Periquitos last term, including a hat-trick in a 5-1 home win over Rayo Vallecano.

The Nigerian international had previously spent six years with Almeria after signing from Wisla Krakow for €1m in July 2005, making over 170 appearances for the Andalusians in all competitions with 39 goals.

Having started his professional career in his native country in 1998, he subsequently had a year with Espanyol’s B team before moving to Poland in 2001 then joined Ligue 1 side Bordeaux on loan for the 2004-05 season.
