Can newly-rejuvenated Atletico Madrid challenge Barcelona and Real Madrid in 2024-25?

The 2024-25 La Liga season kicked off on Thursday, and it promises to be a enthralling campaign. Over the next three days, the big three get their league seasons up-and-running: Barcelona travel to Valencia, Real Madrid face Mallorca, and Atletico Madrid take on Villarreal at La Ceramica.

It promises to be a titanic season, and there will plenty of option for punters to use sites like India 1xBet to place their stakes on the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atleti.

The expectation is that Real Madrid will retain the La Liga crown that they won last season. Carlo Ancelotti’s have got stronger with the additions of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick Felipe, although they have lost the influential figures of Toni Kroos and Nacho Fernandez. They’ll also be without Eduardo Camavinga for the best part of two months after his injury earlier this week.

If Real Madrid do show weakness this season, Barcelona may not be the ones to pounce. The Catalans are currently in a tough situation, amplified by their 3-0 defeat to Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy. There continues to be plenty of uncertainty surrounding the club’s financial situation, and the result of that is star signing Dani Olmo may not be registered for their La Liga opener against Valencia.

This is where Atleti could thrive. Los Colchoneros appear rejuvenated going into the new season. 2023-24 was disappointing, but they’ve made big signings to fuel the appetite of supporters – Robin Le Normand, Alexander Sorloth and Julian Alvarez have all signed, with Conor Gallagher also expected to join soon alongside a new left-sided centre-back.

The prospect of Alvarez, Sorloth and Antoine Griezmann in attack is very exciting for Atleti. Add in the ever-improving Samuel Lino at left wing-back – with Nahuel Molina/Marcos Llorente at right wing-back – and Simeone’s side have the potential to score so many goals during the campaign.

The big tests will be in defence and midfield. Le Normand is a good addition, and if Jose Maria Gimenez can stay fit, he will be very valuable at centre-back too. A left-sided option is essential, and if David Hancko or Piero Hincapie were to arrive, it would be perfect for Los Colchoneros.

The key in midfield will be being solid enough to cover for the attacking trident of Alvarez, Sorloth and Griezmann. Koke Resurreccion is more than capable of being a top-class midfielder, and the same can be said for Rodrigo De Paul. Add in Gallagher and Pablo Barrios, Atleti have a very good core in the centre of the park.

There is potential for this to be a very good season for Atletico Madrid, of that there is no doubt. They may not be able to rival Real Madrid, but Barcelona are certainly there for the making.

  1. If atletico madrid want to manage truphy at the end of this season the coach need to change his formation and also style of playing a team who is considered as one of the best team in the world always focus on defense playing and that was the reason why last season atletico end in position 4th.the team that the do not suppose to defeat us the will and agian i am yet to testify a game where atletico dominat every things in the field.and again you have qualities players like griez, koke, lemar, alverez, correa,de paul, lino, lorente and saul .to me you are not suppose to let joan go like that because he is a complete player give him his role to play and you can see the result.
