Real Madrid veteran set for Euro 2024 call up and contract extension

Real Madrid veteran Lucas Vazquez will sign a one year extension next month.

Vazquez is part of group of experienced players facing a key call on their futures in Madrid as multiple contracts expire in June.

Vazquez is a firm favourite of Carlo Ancelotti with his experience and ability to cover multiple positions viewed as vital by the Italian coach.

Real Madrid are confident Vazquez will accept the club’s standard offer of an additional 12 months as per their policy on players aged 30+.

As per the latest from Marca, both parties have agreed on a renewal, to extend his bond in Madrid to ten seasons.

With the focus on the UEFA Champions League final, an announcement will be delayed, but Vazquez has made up his mind.

His form in the final stages of the season has also opened up the possibility to make a late push for Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad for Euro 2024.

De la Fuente will stick with Vazquez’s Los Blancos teammate Dani Carvajal as first choice at right back but he could offer back up to the position.
