The much-loved Mexican manager has been at Mallorca since December 2022, and he has managed to keep them in La Liga along the way, with their La Liga status for next season having been assured on Sunday. However, his contract is running out at the end of June, and the decision has been taken not to extend it, meaning that this weekend’s trip to Getafe is Aguirre’s final match in charge.
Aguirre’s replacement is already known, with Jagoba Arrasate having already agreed to take the reins when he leaves Osasuna. It’s not yet known where Aguirre will go next, although he should have chances to remain in La Liga, with the likes of Osasuna and Las Palmas expected to have vacancies.
