Atletico Madrid’s summer transfer targets – the seven moves to strengthen Diego Simeone’s squad

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone will be given the chance to rebuild his squad by the looks of things this summer, with as many players to leave as will stay in the squad, should all go to plan. Los Rojiblancos intend on shortening, but strengthening their squad.

Following on from the 10 exits planned, Atletico’s key targets for the summer are two central defenders, a deep-lying midfielder and a forward. Depending on how things play out and what players leave, they will also seek a second forward, competition for Nahuel Molina on the right and a left-sided central midfielder, taking the total to seven deals, if it works out that way.

Their top priority for the forward position is Alexander Sorloth, while Cristhian Mosquera of Valencia and Real Sociedad’s Robin Le Normand are their two top targets to improve defensively. The preferred option to stabilise the midfield is Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer, who they were in contact with during the winter transfer window.

In addition to those plans revealed by Cadena SER, Catalan paper Sport claim that Marcos Alonso of Barcelona will sign for Atletico this summer, leaving the Blaugrana after two years. The 33-year-old has played just once since his return from injury in March, and has made just eight appearances altogether this season, adding to the 37 from last season. He is thought to be the Mario Hermoso replacement.

On paper, they look like solid plans
