Atletico Madrid and Memphis Depay will part ways after just 18 months, with the Dutchman set to become a free agent this summer.
The Dutchman is one of the players set to be part of Atletico’s clearout this summer, and as per Fabrizio Romano, there will be no automatic extension of his 18-month contract, despite it having originally been agreed he would stay on until 2025.

It had been said that Barcelona also had a 50% sell-on clause on the 30-year-old, but it appears they will also miss out on any income, with Memphis leaving as a free. He will now be liberated to sign a contract with whichever team he pleases. He moved for €3m in January of 2023, and despite some good cameos, has never had a settled place in the team.

Injuries have limited Memphis to just 1,202 minutes, albeit he has scored nine goals and given two assists, with a good goal contribution to minutes ratio. In total Memphis has scored 13 goals and given two assists in 40 appearances. Despite some highlight reel moments against Granada and Inter in the Champions League, Diego Simeone has become gradually disillusioned with his lack of availability, with reports earlier this season that he was at odds with Atletico over his conditioning.
