David De Gea keen on return to La Liga seven months on from Manchester United exit

David De Gea has been a free agent ever since leaving Manchester United last summer upon the expiry of his contract. Rather surprisingly, the Spanish international goalkeeper has remained without a club throughout this season, despite having been linked with numerous clubs over the last few months.

A return to the Premier League has been touted, while clubs in Saudi Arabia have also been interested in the 33-year-old. However, it appears that he is keen on a return to Spanish football, according to reports in England (as covered by Diario AS).

De Gea has not played in La Liga since he left Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, but it could be a good time for him to return. Several teams could be on the lookout for a new keeper during the summer, including the likes of Real Betis, Villarreal and Sevilla.

A return to Atleti is unlikely to be on the cards for De Gea, although that shouldn’t stop him returning to action in La Liga. For now, it’s unlikely that anything will happen before the summer transfer window opens.
