Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski accused of owing money to Polish Football Federation

Robert Lewandowski is undoubtedly the main main in Poland’s national team setup. The 35-year-old has been the talisman for many years, and that is expected to continue until he announces his international retirement.

However, Lewandowski’s relationship with the Polish Football Federation (PZPN) is rather rocky. According to Meczyki (via Diario AS), the Barcelona striker owes money to the PZPN. He reportedly promised to pay for a dinner during the World Cup, but later passed the bill onto the Federation.

However, Tomasz Zawislak – who is Lewandowski’s best friend – has categorically denied these accusations.

“I heard a rumour that the PZPN spreads such nonsense to attack Robert just before the most important qualifying match. What a coincidence. As is often the case with rumours, they often have little to do with the truth.

“The fact is that Robert paid for the dinner privately and never waited for or received any refund from the Polish Football Association.”

Barcelona will be worried about the situation affecting Lewandowski once he returns to the club after Poland’s next match. He has just started to hit form this season, and the last thing the Catalans want is for that to be affected.
