“It is worthy of Donald Trump” – Real Madrid’s Franco video lambasted by English media outlet

This week, Joan Laporta caused controversy by referring to Real Madrid as “the club of the regime” during his two-hour press conference into El Caso Negreira.

The remarks did not go down well at Real Madrid, who in turn responded with a video on their Twitter account, which referenced Barcelona’s connections with the Franco regime in the early-to-mid 20th century.

Although the video was adored by Madridistas across the world, many criticised it for bringing back memories of one of the darkest periods in Spain’s history.

The video did also not go down well in England, with Daily Mail writer Jason Draper (via MD) questioned whether Barcelona were indeed the “regime club”, before stating his belief that Real Madrid were trying to “manipulate a culture war”.

“Barcelona, especially under Laporta, would see itself as a bastion of Catalan nationalism, something that the winner of that civil war, General Franco, considered an internal enemy, and a decentralising threat to Spanish power. It was something he tried to eliminate through brutality and violence.

“The video is a move worthy of Donald Trump, in his ability to manipulate a culture war for his own ends. Not only does it affect the club’s fans, but it digs into the wounds of the terrible Civil War of 1936-1939.”

The situation has caused much controversy in Spanish football this week, but with Barcelona and Real Madrid seemingly at each other’s throats over El Caso Negreira, it is one that doesn’t look like defusing any time soon.

  1. lgnorant laporta as always.
Ironically, Trump is the only president since Herbert Hoover who hasnt started a war in order to plunder a nation for its assets. Comparing him to a civil war period is laughable, even for him.

People have lost a grip on reality. Them being offended by Trump and his statements cannot even be compared with misery, suffering and pain brought on people by Iran, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Yugoslavia, Sudan, Libya, Venezuela, Yemen, Bolivia, Quwait and many, many more brought to you by trigger happy presidents of US.

Whats even more amusing is that he didnt even reply to facts such as Franco bailing bribELona out 3 times from bankruptcy, building them Camp Nou Franco and them handing out 3 gold medals to him in return.

But… populism works that way, scream loud in buzzwords, obfuscate the original argument untill short-memory modern people dont even have an idea what was the original argument in the first place.

What about being bailed out by Franco, laporta? Your gaslighting tactics dont work on anyone with normal cognitive function.

    1. Gaslighting tactics on herd mentality folks.
Loved how the video showed the truth. It’s unthinkable how Barca has maintained this narrative on all it’s fans. Things are not as they seem or presented. Indeed. I think Barca fans should be grateful for the video as it unmasked some of the lies they have been groomed on for years. Better to know the truth than to be misled. The reason they want the video taken down is also sinister as they don’t want more people to know the truth like the earlier comment by MC. Camp Nou part funded by he who should not be named 📛

      1. Lmao word.
Im just waiting for Godwins law and reductio ad HitIerum, laporta has checked a lot of argumentation fallacies so far.
When you really want to switch focus, just talk about something polarizing. Its not like media will do its job and scrutinize him anyway, theyre too afraid of being sued.

  2. Two things. This all started with Laporta suggesting that Real Madrid was the “regime’s team”, which is pathetic. The club just defended themselves from such accusations. The reality was that during Franco’s dictatorship all teams had to follow certain protocols, however Barcelona was the only one, as far as I know, to condecorate Franco. Second, it seems you missed from the Daily Mail article that “The video was brutal, direct and not without truth”. All said, unfortunately Spain had this pointless political discussion for decades, it seems we still couldn’t get over the fact that Franco is death and we are in a democracy, because he is always brought back by political parties to attrack votes :(.
