Nacho Fernandez hailed on Spain return as previous “injustice” highlighted

Nacho Fernandez was one of a few players that returned to the Spanish national team under Luis de la Fuente, and the Real Madrid defender put in an excellent performance as La Roja started their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in stunning fashion.

Alongside Aymeric Laporte, Nacho was imperious as he helped stifle the Norwegian attack, spearheaded by Real Sociedad’s Alexander Sorloth in the absence of Erling Haaland.

It’d be easy to forget that Nacho had not played for Spain in almost five years before Saturday night, having been seemingly omitted by previous head coach Luis Enrique. Speaking of his performance, Marca called it an “injustice” that the 33-year-old had been absent from Spain duty for so long/

Nacho will hope to build on his imperious first appearance back in international football when Spain travel to Glasgow to take on Scotland on Tuesday evening, with the Scots off the back of their own 3-0 victory on Saturday against Cyprus.
