Jurgen Klopp takes a swipe at Barcelona’s transfer policy

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has criticised Barcelona’s summer spending spree in an outspoken interview from the German coach.

La Blaugrana have opted for a controversial fiscal policy in recent weeks as they aim to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours in 2022/23.

However, their actions have caused bemusement across Europe, due to their ongoing financial issues ahead of the campaign start.

Iconic captain Lionel Messi famously departed the club last summer, as their financial crisis prevented his contract renewal from being ratified, with Jules Kounde still unregistered this month.

Barcelona have agreed a multi million sponsorship deal with Spotify, over the naming rights at the Camp Nou, alongside the sale of TV rights, to free up cash for new players.

The project appears to be finely balanced and Klopp has added his voice to the growing list of observers concerned at the club’s long term future.

“I don’t get it for various reasons. If you tell me I don’t have any money, then I don’t spend anything”, as per reports from Marca.

“It happened to me twice with my credit card, luckily that was a few years ago.”
