Real Madrid’s summer plans after Kylian Mbappe snub

Following a dramatic end to the Kylian Mbappe saga, Real Madrid have been left treading water.

The French forward formed the cornerstone of their sporting plan for the coming years and without him, their entire strategy is forced into a rethink.

Rumours have linked Real Madrid strongly with Antonio Rudiger and previously Aurelien Tchouameni was supposedly of great interest. How Florentino Perez will react to their biggest addition of the summer leaving them at the altar remains to be seen however.

According to Diario AS, there is no plan. Their strategy this summer was focused on Mbappe and without him, the most likely development is that Real Madrid will place further trust in the growth of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes. The former has transformed into one of the stars of La Liga this season, while few players have had the material impact of Rodrygo in the Champions League.

However they don’t rule out the idea that Los Blancos may pounce on a market opportunity. Previous interest in Robert Lewandowski could be reignited with the Polish forward attempting to move.

Lewandowski has been linked with Barcelona but there is another coveted Barcelona priority that could interest Real Madrid too. Another Frenchman, Ousmane Dembele. The 25-year-old is out of contract at Barcelona and although Xavi remains keen to keep him, the Catalans may not be able to compete with the salary that Perez could offer him.
