Barcelona’s strategy to bring Robert Lewandowski to Camp Nou

While the football world burns white hot with the news that Kylian Mbappe will be staying at Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona are doing what they can to bring in Robert Lewandowski.

According to Sport, the Catalans have submitted their first offer for the Polish forward. They carried a story from German outlet Sport1, which claims that Barcelona have opened negotiations with Bayern Munich at €30m. Nevertheless, Bayern have rejected the offer and see it as insufficient.

Yesterday in his pre-match press conference, Barcelona manager confirmed that Barcelona were interested in Lewandowski.

Meanwhile Marca say that he has been an objective for some time. According to their report, Joan Laporta and the Sporting Directorate have been working on a set plan to engineer his exit from Bayern Munich.

The first part was to convince Lewandowski that the time was right for a change of environment and prevent a renewal with Bayern. In light of Lewandowski’s public desire to leave, that step has been achieved.

The next part and arguably the most difficult is to find the money for it. The sale of Barca Studios or Barca Merchandising, either a percentage of or in full, would be key to finding the cash. Following that, negotiating and agreeing to the CVC deal will be a necessity for any deal with Lewandowski.

If that falls into place, it will then be up to Mateu Alemany to find a way of fitting the transfer into Financial Fair Play and the La Liga salary limits. The sale of Philippe Coutinho was an important factor but there is still plenty of work to do in order to clear the decks.

The final part of the plan requires finding an agreement with Bayern for his transfer. Without that, the rest is futile.
