Sometimes football throws up stories that seem too ironic to be true.
Barcelona have found themselves a victim of that irony far too often in recent years and it has struck them again. In their Thursday night La Liga tie with Real Sociedad, all four of Barcelona’s back four ended up receiving treatment at some point with three of them ending up substituted.
It appears all that extra work has taken its toll on the medical staff at Barcelona. Sport are reporting that Dr. Ricard Pruna has injured himself and will undergo surgery on Sunday.
The doctor slipped while coming onto the field of play to treat someone and in an attempt to break his fall, tore a tendon in his elbow.
With Barcelona enduring a brutal injury crisis in the late 2021, manager Xavi Hernandez made a conscious effort to bring Pruna back to the club in a bid to address that crisis. Despite Pedri’s injury ruling him out until the end of the season, it does seem to have improved the health of the squad.
