Oliver Khan pours cold water on Lewandowski to Barcelona rumours

With Barcelona seemingly out of the race to sign Erling Braut Haaland, rumours have been swirling in recent weeks that the Catalan club will try to bring Polish striker Robert Lewandowski to the club.

No doubt the fallout at Bayern Munich will be considerable after their Champions League exit to Villarreal, as it would be at any of the ‘elite’ clubs. Much to the delight of Unai Emery.

Yet before the match, the CEO of the club and legendary goalkeeper Oliver Khan spoke to Amazon Prime about that transfer storm. Mundo Deportivo carried his answers.

“Apparently there is a competition to see who can come out with the biggest nonsense about Robert Lewandowski. Definitively, we will have Robert with us next season. It’s very important to mention that we have a contract with him that is valid for next season. If there’s anything to say, we will do so.”

All in all, Khan seemed to find the whole suggestion preposterous. Some of the stories surrounding Lewandowski had focused on the fact that he was unhappy with Bayern’s reluctance to begin discussing a new contract with Lewandowski, but Khan completely dismissed that idea too.

“The club isn’t crazy and is not discussing the transfer of a player that scores between 30 and 40 goals a season. We have a contract with Robert. We have always said we would start conversations, we did so a while ago.”

Lewandowski has a contract in Munich until 2023, at which point he will be 34 years old. It appears he wants at least one more big contract at the top level.
