Raul de Tomas admits off the pitch issues had affected form in recent weeks

Espanyol sealed a sweet victory over rivals Mallorca on Sunday lunchtime thanks to another goal from their star striker Raul de Tomas.

RDT, as he wears on the back of his shirt, has been making the difference all season for Catalan club. Against Mallorca he notched his fourteenth league goal of the season, meaning only Karim Benzema has more than him in La Liga.

Speaking to the media after his winning goal, de Tomas was sincere about his recent form, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

“Sometimes you go through bad moments, we all have our problems and things outside of football and that has repercussions on the pitch, but now I am very happy.”

“Regardless, now I need to change my mindset and focus on the national team.”

De Tomas has received his second call-up to Luis Enrique’s squad as a result of his good form – he is the top scoring Spaniard in the big five leagues in Europe. He also had some words for his teammate Sergi Darder, who provided the assist for de Tomas’ goal.

“I’ve known him for two years. With certain players you have a more intimate connection. I know exactly what he is going to do in each moment and that’s why we link up.”
