Xavi remains open minded on La Liga title push

Barcelona boss Xavi has insisted his side are not yet out of the 2021/22 La Liga title race.

La Blaugrana remain inside the Top Four at the end of play this weekend as Xavi’s side sealed a straightforward 4-0 win at home to Osasuna.

Goal from Ferran Torres, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Riqui Puig ensured a key victory at the Camp Nou to bring Barcelona to within 12 points of league leaders Real Madrid.

However, with an El Clasico trip to Madrid on the horizon next weekend, Xavi is open minded over a late season push for the title.

“La Liga is very difficult to win, or even to win at the Bernabeu”, as per reports from Marca.

“They (Real Madrid) have only lost two games this season and we would need them to lose three or four more.

“We cannot be too optimistic about our chances.”

Up next for Barcelona is a Europa League trip to face Galatasaray in their last 16 second leg clash in midweek before facing Los Blancos on March 20.

Xavi’s squad will have a quick turnaround after returning to Spain from Turkey with only one training session before flying on to Madrid the night before the game.
