Mario Balotelli compares himself to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Mario Balotelli has compared himself to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in comments to The Athletic. The Italian forward, 31, is currently playing his football with Turkish side Adana Demirspor.

“I’m 100% sure that my quality is the same level as these people [Messi and Ronaldo],” Balotelli is quoted as saying. “But I… I missed some chances, you know? It happens.”

Born in Palermo to Ghanaian parents, Balotelli grew up in foster care in Brescia in the north of Italy. He made his first team debut at the age of 15 with Lumezzane before joining Internazionale at the age of 17. By the age of 20 he was off to Manchester City, a period in which he played some of his very best football.

After City he joined Milan before a stint with Liverpool and then a three-year spell in the south of France with Nice. Since 2019 he’s played for Marseille, Brescia and Monza before going to Turkey.

He’s earned 36 caps for the Italian national team throughout his career and scored 14 goals for his country. At club level he’s played 442 games so far in his career and scored 185 goals.
