Luis Enrique issues verdict on Gavi’s performance during Spain vs Sweden

Luis Enrique has issued his verdict on Barcelona star Gavi after his impressive display for Spain.

Spain progressed to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a win on Sunday night over Sweden thanks to Alvaro Morato‘s second-half strike.

La Roja’s direct qualification did appear in doubt at one stage, but wins over Greece and Sweden in their last two games have got the job done.

And in the second of those games, Barca youngster Gavi stood out.

The midfielder was excellent, once again silencing critics with Spain boss Luis Enrique having been criticised for calling up the 17-year-old during the last international period.

Speaking after Gavi’s latest masterclass, Luis Enrique told Marca: “If I decide to bring Gavi is because I believe I know him and because he can do good things.

“And he has played a spectacular game in front of 50,000 fans.”

Gavi is likely to continue to play a central role for Spain under Luis Enrique, while new Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez is also likely to lean upon the youngster.

At just 17 years of age, the youngster has plenty of room still yet to grow and appears to be one of the most exciting youngsters both for Spain nationally and for Barca.
