Lazio interested in young Barcelona defender

Lazio are interested in signing Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo according to a report in Corriere dello Sport carried by The Laziali.

The Italian side had been linked with Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos but have instead decided to pursue the young French centre-back currently on loan in Portugal with Benfica.

Lazio have been forced into the transfer market due to Luiz Felipe’s recent injury. He was forced to have surgery on his ankle, an operation expected to keep him out of action for the next few months at least.

Todibo signed for Barcelona in January 2019 from Ligue Un side Toulouse, but has thus far been unable to force his way into the Blaugrana defence.

He was loaned out to the Bundesliga with Schalke last January with a purchase option included in the deal only for the German club to decide against activating it.

He joined Benfica before the start of this season for a two-year loan spell with a purchase option again included, but coach Jorge Jesus is said to not rate him in the slightest. He’s played just twice this season and looks set to be on the move again.
