Barcelona defender Gerard Pique insists the club can win La Liga and the Champions League this season despite recent poor form.
They are the two remaining competitions that the Blaugrana can win this season after Thursday night’s elimination from the Copa del Rey.
An own goal from Sergio Busquets in the last minute saw the Catalan giants eliminated from the Copa at San Mames, as Athletic Club Bilbao progressed through to the last four.
It followed less than a month on from Barcelona’s elimination in the Spanish Supercopa, with the possibility growing that the club finish the season without winning a trophy.
“It is hard because we are eliminated but the feeling is that we have taken a step forward,” Pique told reporters, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.
“If you play like today, most of the time you win, you have to look at the positive things. We have to keep playing this well.
“There is enough confidence and talent to be able to win the two remaining competitions (La Liga and the Champions League).”
Barcelona have struggled for form since the turn of the year and since Ernesto Valverde was dismissed from his position after the Supercopa loss.
Quique Setien was appointed to replace the outgoing Valverde and has struggled for results early on – this Copa exit following a league defeat at Valencia, which ensures the club trail league leaders Real Madrid by three points at the top of La Liga.
“Everyone knows what they have done well and what they have not and now we must keep working,” Pique added. “We need to stop biting our nose to spite our face because that won't help us.
“We built this club on victories and we must do that again. We are working towards doing that, we are playing better, we're adapting to the ideas of the coach and the dressing room is as united as ever.”
