Luis Suarez: The goal was to top our Champions League group

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has hailed him team mates for securing qualification for the Champions League last 16 with a 3-1 win at home to Borussia Dortmund.

Suarez got the ball rolling for Ernesto Valverde's side, with a goal on the half hour mark, before strikes from Lionel Messi secured a 16th successive season in the knockout stages.

The Catalan side achieved their goal with one game to go in the group stages, and the Uruguayan international was pleased with their progress.

"Our objective was to finish top of the group, and now we have done that," he told reporters from Marca at full time.

"We also wanted to improve our performance level, which we did, but in the second half we reduced out intensity."

Suarez also had a word for strike partner Messi, on a historical night for the Argentinian international who scored his 613th goal on his 700th Barcelona appearance.

"After so many years of playing and training together, I always know where he is on the pitch."

"Everything he does, and everything we do, is for the team."

Ernesto Valverde's side now face a crunch La Liga tie at Atletico Madrid this weekend, with games against Real Mallorca and Real Sociedad either side of their final group game away at Inter Milan.
