Messi, Griezmann relationship strong at Barcelona – Pique

Gerard Pique has outlined how Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi share a strong relationship, despite press reports to the contrary.

Earlier this month French outlet Le10 Sport claimed that the two have not clicked since Griezmann arrived from Atletico Madrid this summer, and sensationally claim that he could even be a makeweight in a future deal to take Neymar to the Camp Nou.

Griezmann was a summer arrival at Barcelona – who triggered his €120m release clause at Atleti – and despite scoring four goals for his new club, has not fully settled into the rhythm of his new side.

Messi had been injured for most of the opening two months of the campaign but has now returned to fitness in a run which has coincided with a winning run of form for the Blaugrana.

“It's really good,” Pique told Cadena Ser, as cited by Diario AS, when asked on the relationship between Griezmann and Messi.

“Everything gets blown out of proportion. Leo and Antoine get on just like Leo does with Dembélé or Pedo or Villa. They get on well. With Luis, they're practically like brothers and then after that there are different relationships.

“Just because he doesn't get on with Griezmann like he does with Luis doesn't mean they don't get on well.”

The question marks appear to have derived from Messi’s apparent desire for the Catalan giants to re-sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
