But how was the Champions League won in the last three seasons?

1- Liverpool (2019)

Liverpool lost out on the Premier League last season but got the biggest consolation imaginable in the form of the Champions League trophy. No one could begrudge them their achievement as they were thoroughly deserving of the coveted trophy. At one point, their European campaign looked to end from the group stages of the competition after two defeats from PSG and Napoli. But Salah's brilliance and Alison's heroics secured their place in the knockouts where after easing past Bayern and Porto, they faced their biggest test against Barcelona in the Champions League's semi-final.

The Camp Nou encounter left them requiring a miracle for progressing to the final, for they conceded three unanswered goals. The picture was looking very bleak then, for their Premier League title prospects had also diminished to a pale hope. To lift them out of this doom and gloom, they needed a miracle and Jurgen Klopp's men produced that at Anfield.

They defeated Barcelona 4-0 to overturn the deficit and progress to the final. Tottenham proved to be an easy opponent for the Reds as they lifted their sixth European crown.

2- Real Madrid (2018)

Real Madrid looked to be struggling early in this competition but eventually won this European crown to surprise everyone. In the Round of 16, they easily outclassed PSG but they faced a tough foe in Juventus in the quarter-finals.

Despite taking a 3-0 lead in the first leg, their progression to the next round looked in jeopardy when Mario Mandzukic's brilliance levelled the aggregate score. However, Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed the winner from the spot kick to proceed ahead in the competition.

Bayern Munich also made Real Madrid work very hard for their victory in the semi-final. However, they were spared their labours for victory in the final thanks to the two howlers from Loris Karius.

3- Real Madrid (2017)

Real Madrid was full of confidence coming into this competition as they had beaten Atletico Madrid to win the European crown in the previous season. After easing ahead of Napoli in the Round of 16, they bested Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid to make it to the finals once again.

Real Madrid gave a great performance in the final against Juventus who were overwhelmed by the brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese scored either side of the interval while Casemiro and Asensio also played their part to make it an emphatic victory for Real Madrid.
