Barcelona vote to withdraw Franco medals

Barcelona have confirmed a successful members vote to remove two medals awarded to former Spanish leader Francisco Franco.

The Catalan club gave ceremonial medals to the former Fascist leader during his time as the head of the Spanish state between 1939 and 1973, according to reports in Mundo Deportivo.

The announcement was made following the club's annual Ordinary General Assembly, with five votes – including the Franco Withdrawal motion – passed, and one rejected by members.

The liquidation of the 2018-19 budget and the approval of the 2019-20 on were approved by majorities of 79.7% and 84.6% respectively.

The bill relating to Franco received the highest Yes vote, of 99.1%, with the decision to confirm Joan Manuel Traytor as Sindic del Soci getting 90.8% of votes.

However the option to introduce electronic voting to in future assemblies was rejected by members, with a 59.3% No vote by members, as it needed a two thirds majority to pass.
