Jose Maria Gimenez: Radamel Falcao anecdote is fake

Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez has rubbished widespread claims of distraction tactics he used on Radamel Falcao.

Quotes have been attributed to the defender claiming that in one match between Uruguay and Colombia, he used a series of distraction techniques against the striker.

It is claimed he asked Falcao what colour his car was, the discrepancies between flags and how to spell September for the purposes of his new tattoo.

However, the Atleti player has said that this is a totally fictitious claim, although he did admit that it made him laugh.

“No no, that was a funny anecdote but it was not true,” Gimenez said in an interview with Diario AS.

“It was my debut with Uruguay and I was against Colombia who had Falcao – he had just left Atleti and I was arriving at that time.

“It was actually him who asked me if I had bought a car in Madrid, then we finished the conversation when we both got on the plane back to Spain.

“For me, it was a great honour that a huge player like Falcao wanted to speak to me at all!”
