Liverpool rule out return for Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ruled out the club re-signing Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho this summer.

The Brazil international has cut a frustrated figure for the Catalan club this season, finding starting opportunities limited at the club and struggling to find consistent form.

The Brazilian only joined the Camp Nou in January 2018 for a deal worth up to €160m but it now appears the Blaugrana are willing to cut their losses on the player.

“I like Phil, I think he is a fantastic footballer, but it would take a great, great, great, great, great, great, great amount of money and this year we cannot do it,” Klopp told reporters, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.

“It simply is not possible. As I said, having him would improve any team in the world, including ours, but I really hope he is lucky in Barcelona.

“We have contact, but not that close contact to know exactly how his situation is. The rest are things that appear in the newspapers, things like that.”
