Renan Lodi: Filipe Luis an inspiration for me

New Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi has explained Brazilian compatriot Filipe Luis is an ‘inspiration’ for his career.

Luis is out of contract at Los Rojiblancos but despite now being a free agent, he is currently in talks with the club over a new short-term deal at the club.

Lodi, 21, made 70 first-team appearances for Athletico Paranaense and helped his side to the Sudamericana title last year but has now moved to the Spanish capital.

“Filipe Luis is an inspiration for me, I like him very much,” Lodi told reporters upon his unveiling as an Atleti player.

“I like him a lot and saw him play in the Copa America and I want to learn from him a lot, and I’m sure that will be the case if he stays here.

“He will be a benchmark for me from now on and I will continue to try and learn a lot from him and continue to be inspired.”

Atleti needed to reinforce their left-back area following Lucas Hernandez’s €80m move to Bayern Munich this summer.
